Dr. Lauren Schau is a general dentist practicing in Farmington, New Mexico. She lives in the area with her husband Dustin and two fur babies–Johnny and June! She grew up in small-town Iowa and went to Iowa State University to obtain a bachelor of science in Biology. After undergraduate, she attended dental school at University of Iowa College of Dentistry and Dental Clinics. In school, she completed a rotation in a geriatric and special care clinic. It was at this time, she felt the need to help those that need it most–her favorite patients!
After completing dental school, Dr. Schau did a General Practice Residency at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota. During her residency, she did perform many pediatric and special needs adult general dentistry cases in an operating room setting. Treatment in the hospital is necessary for those that cannot cooperate in a conventional dental setting. Treatments available in a hospital setting include, but are not limited to: cleanings, x-rays, periodontal treatment, fillings, root canals, crowns, and extractions.
The geriatric patient population (or the “wiser ones” as Dr. Schau says) also holds a special place in her heart. Dr. Schau lost her grandfather to Alzheimer’s disease and understands the difficulties and patience required to treat patients with dementia, complicated medical conditions, Parkinson’s, etc. Because of her love for this population, she makes an effort to treat patients at local long-term care facilities.
Dr. Schau is currently working at our Dental Kids office in Farmington, NM. She maintains hospital privileges at San Juan Regional Medical Center and is also on staff at Life Care Center of Farmington. She never hesitates to tell anyone that she loves to treat, “the young, the wiser, and her favorites!” Feel free to contact us if you would like to schedule an appointment.
